Vanessa Cooper 8 July - 22 July 2018
Wow! Once again Vanessa Cooper lets her imagination run riot - escaping escargot, birds nesting in teapots, picnicking dogs and an abundance of spring flowers.
These are wonderfully joyful, humorous paintings, bursting with colour and English eccentricity, almost as if she sees things through the eyes of a child. She paints what she loves, family life, her menagerie of animals, trees in blossom, and virtually anything else that appeals. Her large canvas 'The Birds and The Bees' is a triumph of joie de vivre, which rather sets the tone for the whole exhibition 'Bonhomie'.
Her work is bold, uncompromising and full of life, and that has never changed since her teenage years when she first took up painting. She was born and grew up in Hampshire and studied at Portsmouth University. Since 1987, when she first began exhibiting, she has built a reputation as a serious and talented artist with a deep love of colour and a unique and now very recognisable style.
Her exhibition is a celebration of spring and summer, of lazy days and picnics, of dozing dogs and apple blossom, and ultimately of colour. We do hope you enjoy it.
