Anne-Marie has a long-standing fascination with flowers and her palette is subtle and her tones close, giving her flower paintings a feeling of quiet and calm with flowers growing freely in the countryside and in formal gardens. She finds her inspiration in English gardens and landscapes, drawn to beautiful plant and colour combinations and the nuances of shape in intricate patterns of stems and leaves. The vigour of her mark-making combines with a subtle palette to create paintings with a sense of exuberance.
Anne-Marie explains “All my work is essentially an attempt to make a beautiful, uplifting image. In both my garden and still life paintings I hope to convey the character of different flowers and the unique atmosphere they can create in a space; the strong structures and often the sheer joyfulness of their appearance. I try to capture the sense of calm that flowers can give us; a chance to contemplate, meditate and remember our connection with the natural world.”
Anne-Marie’s work combines strong traditional technical skill with a modern sensibility. She has been painting and exhibiting for 30 years since studying Fine Art at Loughborough College of Art and Middlesex University. She lives in Crouch End, North London and paints full-time from her garden studio.
