Art Talks – Saied Dai
Thursday 27th October 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Duncan Room of the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Insitution
A documentary on the artist Saied Dai, in conversation with the filmmaker and writer Jonathan Stedall, whilst sitting for his portrait.
Filled with observation and insight, their dialogue explores the joys, vicissitudes, and paradoxes of the creative process. With contributions from Saied’s partner and fellow artist Charlotte Sorapure.
The range of topics touched upon include:Beauty in ugliness and ugliness in beauty; Any work of art is as much a self-portrait, as it is of the subject; How do you know when something is finished? The essential difference between photography and painting; The paradoxical nature of accuracy; Outer appearances and inner lives; Thinking and expression; and Inspiration.
The film is of relevance to anyone interested in the deeper questions of Art and its wider ramifications in life. This will be followed by questions and answers and a talk with further illustrations of paintings covering different genres, as well as commissions.
