Anne-Marie Butlin 19 November 2022 - 3 December 2022

Anne-Marie has been painting and exhibiting for 30 years since studying Fine Art at Loughborough College of Art and Middlesex University. She lives in North London and paints full-time from her garden studio.

In this exhibition of new paintings Anne-Marie has concentrated on two different aspects of her continued passion for flowers and English gardens. Though her paintings are complex they are never overworked, conveying strong structure at the same time capturing the sense of calm that flowers give us.

Whether they are her small paintings of freshly picked flowers which she has arranged in vases, or her larger paintings which draw us closely into the English countryside borders and hedgerows, they both combine traditional technical skill with modern sensibility. If you look deeply into the ‘Jewel Garden’ you will see an abstraction in the foreground that only serves to heighten the overall beauty of this rich colourful painting, a characteristic of her style, which is evident in a number of the larger works. In the small still life paintings, the picked flowers are given an importance all of their own against a calm background echoed only by their own shadow.

This will be Anne-Marie’s second solo show with the gallery, and we hope you enjoy it.
