Born in Sunderland in 1962, Gavin Watson lives and works in rural Northumberland. He is inspired by the region, its history and the rich variety of wildlife inhabiting its landscape. His paintings explore the relationship between human and animal, and the internal and external worlds they share.
Gavin has exhibited his work in New York, and has regularly been selected for the BP National Portrait award. He was selected for the Columbia Threadneedle Art prize 2018 and the New Light Art Prize and touring exhibition 2018, where his painting ‘Lucky Jim’ won the visitors choice award.
Gavin is represented in London and the Cotswolds and his work is held in private collections throughout the UK and worldwide in Europe, North America and The Middle East. His work has appeared in numerous solo and mixed exhibitions since 1987.
