Figurative and abstract painter and printmaker, Gleghorne was born in England in 1925 and emigrated with his parents to Australia aged three. He began painting full time under the guidance of William Dobell and began exhibiting in Sydney in 1954. Gleghorne has won over 30 major art awards and held around 34 solo exhibitions. His work was included in the Tokyo Print Biennale in 1960. He taught at the National Art School in Sydney in 1960 and was Head of Canberra School of Art. He is now considered one of Australia’s leading painters.
