Francis Hamel was born in 1963, and studied at the Ruskin School of Art, and at Magdalen College Oxford
Essentially a tonal painter, the rich subtle tones in Hamel’s paintings are overlaid with strong colour to create enormous depth. Almost medieval in feel they exude a calm beauty that is quite unique.
Solo exhibitions of his work have been held in Oxford, Milan, London and elsewhere. He is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, and his work is held in private collections in many parts of the world, particularly in Japan, America, Russia and throughout Europe. He has undertaken numerous important commissions.
He recently completed a portrait of the former Prime Minister, David Cameron and is currently working on a further number of important commissions.
