Andrew HemingwayArtists > Andrew Hemingway Born in Yorkshire, where he still lives, Andrew Hemingway works in pastel and egg tempera, producing images, particularly in pastel, of remarkable precision and depth. He is probably one of the most important still life artists in pastel working today.
He attended the Barnsley School of Art and took a degree in Fine Art and the History of Art at Camberwell. He studied in Italy and Norway and visits Holland regularly; the Dutch Old Masters, he freely acknowledges, have been an influence on his own painting.
He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, between 1975-1987 and at the Piccadilly Gallery 1980-1984. One-man shows have been held in Canada, Holland and London. A major exhibition of his work was held at this gallery in 1992, the first in Britain since 1984, and another in 1994. His work can be found in private collections, world wide including Italy, New York, Australia, South Africa, London, Hamburg, Japan and Holland.
